Sports Medicine

Most sports-related foot and ankle injuries result from activities involving jumping, running or pivoting and then subsequently twisting the ankle and foot. Injuries can also result from having direct contact with an object like a hard surface or another person or inanimate object.

Diagnosis of sports injuries begins with a review of the patient's symptoms and their medical history, followed by hands-on evaluations of the foot, ankle, and lower extremity. Every treatment is based on the patient's specific needs, and our philosophy is to exhaust all conservative options before considering surgical intervention.

Common sports and traumatic injuries include:

  • Ankle sprains, strains, and tears to ligaments, tendons and muscles
  • Fractures of the foot or ankle
  • Bruising and soft tissue injuries
  • Nerve injuries
  • Heel spurs, bursitis and plantar fasciitis caused by repetitive impact and inflammation
  • Overuse injuries and tendinitis
  • Muscle pain and cramping
  • Chronic instability from repetitive injuries or abnormal biomechanics
