PRP and Stem Cell Therapies
Platelet rich plasma (PRP) is a substance produced from your own bodies blood platelets and are responsible for many functions including clotting and producing growth factors and other cells which are designed to stimulate healing and reduce inflammation. We utilize advanced processes to remove a small of your blood and centrifuge it down to concentrate these cells, then reintroduce them into the areas of chronic pain and inflammation.
The concept is by highly concentrating those cells the body already uses to repair itself, it not only magnifies the bodies normal response but sends out signals for other cells to come assist in the healing process. Because we use your own blood there are no side effects or chance of rejection. The procedure is done under sterile conditions in our office, is relatively painless, but we still offer multiple pain-relieving modalities to insure your comfort.
Stem Cells are different than PRP and are derived primarily from bone marrow and these are extracted from the hip or lower leg bone to use in regenerative medicine therapy. Adipose or fat cells can also be utilized. The choice of location for removal depends on the size of the area being treated and the volume of material required. The iliac crest or hip has a higher volume than the tibia or lower leg. One difference between them is that PRP does not contain Stem Cells, but Stem Cells contain everything found in PRP plus additional growth factors and at a much higher concentration.
Once removed, bone marrow and Stem Cells completely regenerate in the body within a few days. After the marrow is removed it is centrifuged into a concentrated volume, then reintroduced into the area of chronic pain and inflammation. The procedure is done out-patient, typically just requires local anesthesia, is very safe, and allows you to resume your daily activities almost immediately.
